NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Indian Narendra Modi has called for change in composition of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in a bid to secure permanent membership for India.
In his speech at 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly urged world leaders to support India’s inclusion in permanent members of UNSC “so that the security council carries greater credibility and legitimacy and will be more representative and effective in achieving our goals”.
He went on to say that Security Council and the United Nations should be reformed so that its credibility is maintained.
Modi said “I belong to a culture where Earth is considered as mother.” Developed nations should honour their financial pledges both for development and tackling climate change, he added.
He stressed world leaders to follow “housing, power, water and sanitation for all” for long term stability on earth so that “our next generation should be raised to protect the environment.”
“We see the entire world as one family and I want everyone to prosper and that’s what I pray for everyone’s happiness, and prosperity,” the Indian prime minister concluded.
