Pakistani singer Adnan Sami to get Indian citizenship soon

NEW DELHI (Staff Report) – Pakistani singer Adnan Sami Khan has formally filed an application with Indian government seeking citizenship of the country.

According to media reports he is soon expected to be granted the citizenship after having given up Pakistani nationality.

Indian attorney general also confirmed receiving a formal request of citizenship from Pakistani singer.

“Union home ministry is reviewing whether to grant Khan citizenship by naturalization in lieu of his distinguished service to the cause of art,” official was quoted saying in reports.

Earlier India granted indefinite stay to Adnan Sami Khan after he did not renew his Pakistani passport. He has been residing in India for over a decade.

A foreigner is eligible to receive citizenship under the Indian Citizenship Act, provided he has delivered eminent service to the cause of science/technology, philosophy, art, literature, world peace or human progress.
