India register sixth consecutive World Cup win, beating England

India maintained their unbeaten streak, defeating England by a margin of 100 runs in the 29th match of the ICC World Cup 2023, played on Sunday in Lucknow.

The Blues advanced to the tournament’s semifinals after winning the big event for the sixth time in a row.

With just one victory in six games—against Bangladesh in Dharamshala—the defending champions are in danger of being eliminated from the major tournament under Jos Buttler’s leadership.

England was 39-4 after struggling against India’s lethal pace attack, with its top order batsmen, Ben Stokes, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, and Jonny Bairstow, all sent back to the pavilion after the latter two were dismissed for ducks.

Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja’s spin attack, which combined for three wickets, did the remaining damage.

Earlier, Unbeaten host had set a target of 230 for struggling England in their Cricket World Cup match.

England won the toss and chose to field, and the bowlers under David Willey held India to 229-9 despite captain Rohit Sharma’s 87.

India have been in superb form so far in the tournament, winning all six of their matches. England, on the other hand, have had a poor run of results, and are languishing at the bottom of the points table.

India have a strong batting line-up, led by captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both batters are in good form.

England’s batting line-up is also very strong, with Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, and Ben Stokes being the key batsmen. However, they have been inconsistent in the tournament so far.

Squads:

INDIA: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Mohammad Siraj/Mohammad Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah.

ENGLAND: Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone/Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.
