LAHORE – In a troubling incident, equipment worth millions of rupees has reportedly been stolen from Mayo Hospital, Punjab’s largest medical facility, during its ongoing renovation.
The hospital’s assistant medical superintendent (AMS) has formally alerted the administration by writing to the chief executive, urging immediate action under the PEEDA Act. The AMS detailed that valuable air conditioning systems, which had been removed from the hospital’s buildings for renovation, were among the missing items. Additionally, essential equipment such as patient beds, medicine trolleys, lights, fridges for medicines, fans, and oxygen supply pipes have not been accounted for.
The letter also mentioned that heavy-duty wires, doors, and windows were among the stolen goods. Despite several months passing since the theft was first noted, the hospital staff responsible has yet to compile or provide a complete inventory of the missing items.
The AMS has called for strict legal action against those involved under the PEEDA Act, emphasizing the need for accountability within the hospital’s ranks. Meanwhile, the hospital administration claims that an investigation into the theft is currently underway, though no significant developments have been reported.
This incident raises serious concerns about the security and management practices within one of the country’s most vital healthcare institutions.
