Massive Sinkhole In Lahore Swallows Three Vehicles Causes Major Traffic Disruptions

A massive sinkhole appeared on the main road in Johar Town, Lahore, swallowing three vehicles—a car and two motorcycles—and causing major traffic disruptions.

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) reported that the sinkhole formed due to an underground sewer line leakage, gradually weakening the road. Two people in the car were injured after being trapped when the sinkhole suddenly opened up. They were rescued with the help of locals, whose efforts were captured in a video that quickly spread on social media.

Following the incident, the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore ordered an immediate diversion of traffic from Main Boulevard Johar Town, leading to increased congestion on nearby routes.

This marks the fourth sinkhole in Johar Town in recent months. In a previous incident, a sinkhole pulled in a vehicle carrying a woman and her child, leaving them injured.

The recent record-breaking rains in Lahore have exacerbated the issue, causing damage to the city’s drainage system. In August, heavy rains led to the collapse of an old sewer line on Khayaban-i-Firdausi, creating another large sinkhole.

Residents and commuters are calling on authorities to address the recurring infrastructure problems and ensure road safety in the area.
