BEIJING – A Shanghai-bound Air China flight was delayed 20 minutes on Saturday morning after an angry couple staged a protest on the runway to stop the aircraft from taking off, Chinese media reported.
The couple who arrived at their gate too late to board a flight in Beijing fought their way past airport personnel and ran onto the airport apron, the China Daily reports.
The flight crew would not let the couple aboard the Air China plane to Shanghai, so the woman said she would remain on the ground below the aircraft until she was allowed on.
Authorities eventually placed her in a police car after delaying the flight by 20 minutes.
The plane was able to depart only after the woman was dragged by her husband into a police car and driven away.
Airport police put the unnamed couple in detention for five days.
