Gas explosion at China coal mine kills 18, traps 2

BEIJING (Web Desk) – At least 18 people were killed and two more remain trapped following an explosion in a Chinese coal mine.

The explosion ripped through the colliery in the northwestern autonomous region of Ningxia Hui Tuesday.

According to the report, rescuers recovered at least 18 bodies from the mine shaft, with two workers still trapped. A total of 200 rescuers and medical staffers worked to rescue the trapped miners.

The mine was operated by Linli Coal Mining company in the city of Shizuishan, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
