1st ODI: New Zealand beat Australia by six runs

AUCKLAND – New Zealand defeated Australia by six runs in the first one-day international in Auckland here on Monday.

New Zealand 286-9 (Neil Broom 73, Martin Guptill 61, James Neesham 48; Marcus Stoinis 3-49, Pat Cummins 2-67).

Australia 280 (Marcus Stoinis 146 not out, Pat Cummins 36; Mitchell Santner 3-44, Lockie Ferguson 2-44, Trent Boult 2-58).

Australia’s Marcus Stoinis scored an unbeaten 146 but it was not enough as the tourists were all out for 280, just short of New Zealand s score of 286.

Spinner Mitchell Santner took three wickets for the Black Caps.
