Gujranwala ‘lovers’ jump before train

GUJRANWALA – A young woman and her alleged lover have committed suicide after jumping before a moving train within Sabzi Mandi Police limits in Gujranwala district of Punjab.

The victim (M) eloped with her lover (A) two days ago, family sources have told the police. On Wednesday, the couple, aging between 25 to 30 years, ended their lives in a very painful manner.

The woman was married to another man for over two years. She was living with her husband – a rickshaw driver – and her in-laws in Nawab Town.

According to the railway crossing operator, who witnessed the suicide, the pair turned up at the railway track, held hands, and leapt in front of an oncoming train, which killed them instantly.

Their bodies have been shifted to Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Earlier this month, a 16-year-old student committed suicide in Islamabad’s Tarnol area. He was in love with his teacher, and killed himself using his father’s firearm over unrequited feelings, police said.

Also last year, in August, a girl and boy in Sargodga poisoned themselves. Bodies of the couple, who wanted to get married, were found in a car.
