CPEC: Three injured in Gwadar motorcycle blast

GWADAR – At least three people were injured after a bomb explosion took place on Gwadar’s Airport Road on Wednesday, police officials said.

Seven shops in the area were also damaged as the bomb placed on a motorcycle ripped off on Wednesday noon.

The injured were taken to nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police and local administration cordoned off the area while further investigations were underway.

Since the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was announced in 2014, the security status in Balochistan has improved, with the government setting up a new army division to ensure protection, while hundreds of rebels surrendered arms.

Last month, a bomb explosion took place under a bridge on the main Sur Bandar road in Gwadar. While there was no loss of life reported, the bridge was partially damaged in the incident. Officials said it was a remote-controlled bomb weighing around 5 to 7 kilogrammes.

Gwadar forms the southern Pakistan hub of a $57 billion CPEC of infrastructure and energy projects.
