Two separate cases registered against mob for killing student in Mardan

PESHAWAR – On Friday the police registered two separate cases against a charged mob that brutally lynched and then killed a student of  Abdul Wali Khan University over alleged blasphemy.

Regarding the murder, a case following sections of killing, terrorism and others has been lodged in Sheikh Maltoon police station against 20 suspects, of which eight have been arrested, Mardan District Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed said.

The police arrested the eight suspects after identifying them through a video footage of the incident, while an operation is underway to arrest others.

Another case has been registered against several students following the charges of road blocking, interference in state affairs and others.

On April 13, Abdul Wali Khan University students Mishal and Abdullah were targeted by a violent mob on campus premises, that killed Mashal and injured Abdullah for allegedly “publishing blasphemous content online”, according to police.

Update: According to Mardan District Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed, 50 suspects have been arrested by Friday.
