DOHA — Qatar Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman on Tuesday said that Kuwait was making effort to defuse the diplomatic crisis in which Arab countries have severed diplomatic relations with Qatar following allegations of supporting terrorism.
Talking to Al-Jazeera, the foreign minister said Kuwait’s ruler had asked Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to postpone his speech regarding the crisis, the biggest diplomatic rift in the Persian Gulf region since the 1991, late Tuesday night.
Yesterday, Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Yemen, Libya and Egypt, and Maldives announced their decision to cut all diplomatic relations with Qatar.
The countries have also closed air, sea and land routes to Qatar in a move to isolate it in the region due to which a numbers of flights have been cancelled so far.
Around 500 Pakistanis are stranded at Hamad International Airport in Doha after Qatar Airway suspended its flights to Saudi Arabia following the diplomatic rift.
