LAHORE – Mehboob Hasan, a maternal uncle of Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed, has announced his support to Team India for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final due to be played at Oval Stadium in England tomorrow (Sunday).
Wondering why he will not cheer for Green Shirts? Because he is an Indian.
Hasan, who resides in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India, said, although Sarfraz is leading the Pakistani side, “for me and my kids, it’s India for whom we will cheer.”
“Where is the pressure? He (Sarfraz) is playing for his team. My children and I always root for Team India,” said Hasan, according to Hindustan Times.
Hailing India’s ability to win under pressure, Ahmed’s uncle suggested that the Indian side have a better combination of players.
“Sarfaraz’s team cannot match our team. We have better players and our team is superior. I can bet that India will win the trophy,” he said.
He recalled his last meeting with Sarfraz and expressed that he feels pretty good about the wicket-keeper batsman’s success in the cricketing career.
The last time both uncle and nephew met in Chandigarh last year, Pakistan played against Australia in a World Twenty20 match. “I am happy he is doing so well in life and cricket,” Hasan shared his feelings about his nephew.
Hasan keeps in touch with his sister (Sarfraz’s mother ) through Skype. “She is not well these days. I want to go and see her in Karachi,” Hasan added.
