Soccer luminaries including Ronaldinho land at Islamabad airport for ‘Leisure Leagues Pakistan’

ISLAMABAD – Eight top footballers from around the world, including Brazilian legend Ronaldinho and Manchester United great Ryan Giggs, arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for two exhibition matches.

The players, who will entertain the soccer fans in Pakistan through a match with a group of Pakistani players for two seven a side matches in Karachi and Lahore, landed at Islamabad airport during pre-dawn hours via a private jet.

The list of the top of the line footballers includes Brazilian football celebrity Ronaldinho who will be accompanied by Brazil’s 2002 World Cup winning teammate, Roberto Carlos, former French midfielder Robert Pires, France’s Nicolas Anelka, Portugal’s Luis Boa Morte, Holland’s George Boateng, England’s David James and former Manchester United player Ryan Goggs.

On the other hand, Pakistani players in action with them will be Kaleemullah, Saddam Hussain, Saadullah, Yousuf Butt, Abdul Aziz, Muhammad Essa, Ghulam Rasool and star of street child football team Mohammad Razzik.

Ronaldinho will be leading one team and Ryan Giggs will captain the other side.  Both the teams will be a mix-up of foreign and local players.

The footballers would play two matches, one in Karachi today (Saturday) and another one at Punjab’s provincial capital, Lahore on Sunday.

For the Lahore match, six categories of tickets have been offered, Platinum plus (Rs 12,500), platinum (Rs 12000), Gold (Rs 8000), Silver (Rs 5,500) Bronze (Rs 2000) and VVIP (Rs 30,000).
