NA speaker seeks nominations for parliamentary committee to investigate into Gulalai’s allegations

ISLAMABAD – The speaker of national Assembly, Ayyaz Sadiq has requested leader of both opposition and ruling party to put forward names to be included in the committee to look into the scathing allegations hurled by Ayesha Gulalai against Imran Khan.

PML-N’s Chief Whip Sheikh Aftab Ahmed and Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, have been requested to nominate 13 and 7 members in proportion to the strength of Parliamentary Parties belonging to the Treasury and the Opposition benches, respectively for this Special Committee on Ethics, Samaa News reported.

The move comes hours after a motion was adopted by the National Assembly authorizing the Speaker National Assembly to appoint a Special Committee under rule 244 (B) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 to inquire into a  tirade of allegations concerning Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan.

The disgruntled PTI MNA had accused Imran Khan of sending inappropriate text messages to her besides raising questions about the character of the cricketer-turned-politician.

On the other hand, PTI supremo denied the charges and welcomed a probe by the committee proposed by the leader of the house Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday.

However, PTI spokesman Shafqat Mahmood rejected what he called a committee of his adversaries.

“Clever trick by new PM t a form parliamentary committee to sit on judgement of AG allegations. We don’t accept committee of our adversaries,” he maintained.

“We welcome indeed demand an impartial inquiry to AG’s false accusations but not through a committee of our political adversaries.”

In an explosive presser on Tuesday, Gulalai claimed that the culture being promoted by certain party leaders was not in line with Pakthtun cultural values.

“Women workers are not respected in the PTI and a respectable woman worker cannot remain in the party,” she alleged.

“Imran Khan once used deplorable words for Benazir Bhutto,” she said and added: “I think it is highly wrong to use such words for someone who has passed away. Even Islam teaches us not to say anything bad about people who have passed away.”

Gulalai, who unleashed a tirade of scathing allegations against PTI bigwigs including the chairman Imran Khan, revealed that she received a marriage proposal from Naeem Ul Haque while substantiating her claims that PTI was being disrespectful towards women.
