LAHORE – She may not just be Pakistan’s sweetheart, she is also a kickass woman who knows how to hold her place and get her voice heard. Let us check out the five times that Mahira Khan owned social media in 2017.
1) When she took a stand on equality and tolerance at LSA 2017.
Mahira Khan won ‘Best Film Actress’ for her role in Ho Mann Jahaan, and asked people to be tolerant towards others’ beliefs and allow equality for all in her speech.
“What I feel we do deserve is a country where we have some sort of equality for every single body no matter what they believe in or what they don’t believe in. I really wish people saw people like us more often, all of us getting together, so much talent, so much love under one roof, it is truly amazing and spectacular. This is for my country and my fans.” – Mahira Khan
2) When she made a comeback to social media after the fuss about leaked images with Ranbir Kapoor
The actor made a point of letting everyone know that crass comments of haters on her personal life will not let her bow down in front of them.

Mahira announced her return to social media after weeks of silence as she replied to a fan that she was back in the game and strong as ever, with her film ‘Verna’ trailer alongside her return! A huge number of fan following welcomed back her return.

3) When she was chosen as the first Pakistani L’OReal ambassador and spoke on the lines of ‘women empowerment’ at PLBW 2017.

“I am proud and honoured to be the first Pakistani Brand Ambassador for L’Oreal. L’Oreal celebrates women empowerment and it goes beyond beauty. Let nobody’s opinion define who you are because all the women out there, including me, are worth it!” – Mahira Khan
4) When she supported the #MeToo Campaign.
In the wake of victims of sexual misconduct standing strong under one banner, Mahira Khan wholeheartedly supported the cause.
“Someone asked whether what we see in our society needs to be depicted in our films. I think it’s necessary and that’s how we reach the masses. If they watch something like Bol, Khuda Ke Liye or Verna, or even Udaari, they might reflect on the situation and think ‘I’m going to be stronger than this.” – Mahira Khan
5) When she made a strong case against the ban of ‘Verna’ by Censor Board.

When the Punjab Censor Board banned ‘Verna’ over it’s ‘objectionable content’ as it showed the legal authorities of the country in bad light, Mahira made a point of letting her voice be heard over social media. She even had a ‘DISCLAIMER’ post, taking a jibe at the censor board.
“Disclaimer: Everything in this film is imaginary. Imaginary because reality is too bitter to be told or shown. Events shown in this film are jokes compared to what has actually been happening in countries like ours.” – Mahira Khan.
More power to you Mahira! May you continue to soar towards new heights of success in years to come.
