Actress Nadia Jamil comes forward with her own experience with sexual abuse

In light of the recent tragedy at Kasur and other similar incidents coming out, many celebrities are not only talking about the issue of child sexual abuse and harassment more openly but are coming forward with their own experiences.

One of those very first to express their despair over the entire matter was famed actress Nadia Jamil, who opened up on twitter about her own traumatic childhood experiences with sexual abuse.

“I was four when i was first abused sexually. I was in college when it blew out of proportion. “

She not only spoke of  how it doesn’t always stop, but also how people reacted to her talking about it openly. “People tell me not to talk to respect my families honour. Is my families honour packed in my body? I am a proud,strong,loving survivor. No shame on me or my kids. Only pride 4 being me”

She also tweeted further, shedding light as to who her perpetrators were and how “Men abuse across the board.” She went on to reiterate the fact that it is never the victim’s fault;

And with her words she inspired many men and women who had gone through the same ordeal;

But as usual there were some naysayers and those who doubted her motives as “propaganda”, to which Nadia Jamil gave an apt response;

One incredulous person even dubbed her “a serial victim” and questioned her as to why no action was taken by her family immediately afterwards, adding that it was “important to share some basic things to educate others”;

 To which she replied: “It’s not easy to talk when one is young and lost. Easier to judge.”

In her opinion, “The cure is literacy, poverty alleviation and an empathetic education that counters all patriarchal, misogynistic discourse on women, womens bodies & male entitlement to sexual gratification for power. PLUS awareness & protection workshops 4 Kids, schools, parents! There is a way.”

She added words of encouragement and love to anyone who has gone through abuse as a child or otherwise;

“I only share it so more women & men who have been abused STOP feeling SHAME & see their is a light inside them Allah has kept burning. Shine it! There is a way out of the hell of humiliation & pain. We can make it out & up to a beautiful place of gratitude! Always! Shukar always!
