Did Hamza Ali Abbasi ask censor board to grow up for banning PadMan?

LAHORE – Pakistani Censor Board banning Akshay Kumar’s PadMan has stirred a debate on social media, with many stars slamming the censor board for making such a decision.

One of the names that popped up in such a debate was that of the one and only Hamza Ali Abbasi.

Hamza made a valid point that the consor board did not ban Padmaavat (Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film that portrayed the Muslim ruler Alaudin Khilji in a barbaric way), and instead ban PadMan that focuses on menstrual hygiene.

Hamza tweeted: “So our Censor Board allowed Padmavat which portrays Sultan Allaudin Khilji as a nymphomaniac barbarian & banned #Padman which gives much needed awareness abt menstrual hygiene! I am known as a wannabe Mullah & even i find it pathetic… Grow up Censor Board!”

As expected, the post got all sorts of reactions from twitterati.

Many were of the view that the film is not be shown here for the reasons, showcasing mentality of common man in Pakistan, ignorance of cinema goers, illiteracy, religious dogma and etc. Many users also supported Hamza Ali Abbasi’s point of views and felt there was a need for Pakistani film makers to focus on such topics too.
