LAHORE – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has reached Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), seeking support to form a government in Punjab as the battle for Lahore throne between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and PML-N intensified.
PML-N head and former Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has stepped up efforts to woo political parties.
In this regard, PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq contacted PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and asked for his party’s support for government formation in Punjab. They are both expected to meet in next 24 hours to exchange views regarding the matter.
Shehbaz Sharif also held meeting with PPP South Punjab President Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood in Lahore and urged him for the support of his party’s six MPAs for making provincial government.
Both leaders were of the view that PPP and PML-N had signed the Charter of Democracy in the past and could also in future move forward together.
Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood told Shahbaz Sharif that PPP leadership will make final decision to support any party in Punjab.
Shehbaz is scheduled to meet PPP leader Khursheed Shah today.
Both PML-N and PTI are lacking a clear majority in Punjab assembly, wheeling and dealing with smaller political parties and independent MPAs-elect to form the government.
According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the PML-N emerged as the largest party in Punjab with 127 seats. PTI was a close second with 123 seats followed by the PML-Q with seven, the PPP with six and independents have 29 seats in the directly elected house of 295 seats.
