UET, PMD to launch weather info service on mobiles

LAHORE (Staff Report) – The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore and Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize liaison in the promotion of training exchange, workshops and research collaboration.

Vice-Chancellor UET Lahore Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid and Director General PMD Ghulam Rasool signed the documents at the campus here Thursday.

As the result of collaboration between both organizations, a mobile based weather information service, covering 139 districts of Pakistan has been launched. It will provide easy and speedy access to users to get updates about weather forecast.

UET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said that it will be beneficial to share the expertise with other departments. He said the UET was promoting relations with government departments, industry and other organizations to attain the objective of knowledge based economy at large.

Director General Pakistan Meteorological Department Ghulam Rasool said that the development of software regarding speedy information about weather will facilitate the masses. It will not only update the user about weather but also enable to predict the situation of earthquake and flood.
