Nisar s quest: Nationwide CNIC re-verification drive kicks off

ISLAMABAD: NADRA kicked off a countrywide campaign to re-verify Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) today.

The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has established a helpline capable of handling 10,000 calls per day for the exercise. It has also established a gateway of 150,000 SMS per day to facilitate people wishing to report suspicious of fake CNICs issued illegally.

NADRA will ensure utilization of all its resources to achieve the desired objective of removing unauthorized foreign nationas from the Authority’s database within the given timeline.

According to officials, the Authority has completed all arrangements to make the national drive a success, including a media strategy for awareness of masses in this regard.

The Authority has also launched a Rs. 10,000/person reward for those who provide information regarding on foreigners with illegally issued Pakistani identity cards or passports.

The re-verification drive was announced following a revelation that former Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansour had been using valid Pakistani identification and travel documents registered to a fake name. According to reports, the deceased Taliban chief had used these documents to enter and exit countries including Iran, Afghanistan and various Gulf states.
