Here’s why Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan captain?

LAHORE – Pakistan’s skipper for ODI and T20I formats Babar Azam has announced his resignation from the position, leaving fans shocked.

After the midnight announcement, there have been confabs with everyone trying to find out the reasons behind the move.

Babar Azam, in his resignation, said that he wanted to focus on his batting and spend time with his family.

However, reports claimed that Babar Azam was not asked by the PCB to resign from captaincy. Coach Gary Kirsten had expressed his desire for Babar to continue as the ODI captain. However, the head coach of the Pakistan white-ball team wanted to appoint a new T20 skipper.

Gary Kirsten had indicated back in July that a change in the T20 captaincy was needed. During his visit to Pakistan in July for the T20 World Cup report and meetings, he met with Babar Azam to discuss the captaincy.

During the recently-held Connection Camp, Kirsten tried to persuade Babar Azam to retain the ODI captaincy. However, Babar Azam felt disconnected from the players and believed he wasn’t valued, which is why he is stepping down.

After the World Cup, reports said Babar Azam had no communication with the board, and he was not included in any consultation process during that time.

Following Babar Azam’s resignation, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is considered a strong candidate to lead the ODI team. He has already been consulted regarding the team selection.

Who will be the Next Captain of Pakistan Cricket Team after Babar Azam’s resignation?
