Dr Asim seeks exclusion of name from ECL, submits copy of London-bound plane ticket to SHC

KARACHI – PPP leader Doctor Asim submitted a copy of his London-bound plane ticket to the Sindh High Court during the hearing of a plea for the removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).

According to the plane ticket, the close confidante of former president Asif Zardari would be heading to London on May 7 for medical treatment recommended by a medical board.

His counsel told the court that he would be returning to Pakistan on May 22 to face the pending cases.

A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Mohammad Junaid Ghaffar, set May 9 as the date for the next hearing of the case.

Dr. Asim was granted bail by the Sindh High Court after almost 18 months in prison but his passport was not handed over to him, preventing him from leaving the country.

He was alleged of over a staggering Rs. 460 embezzlement during his tenure as minister for petroleum during the PPP tenure from 2008 to 2013.
