ROME – Italian officials have expelled a Pakistani man who captained Italian youth cricket team on the allegation of plotting an Islamic State group backed terrorist attack.
According to a report by AFP, Aftab Farook was arrested by local authorities after he was caught talking about using a gun or bomb to target wine shops in Milan and Bergamo on his phone. He wanted to scare the common people through this activity.
Talking to newsmen, Italian Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said that Farook was supporting IS and also planning to go to Syria to join the terrorist organisation.
Aftab Farook was living in Vaprio d’Adda area in the city of Milan for last 15 years. He also captained Italy’s under-19s national team cricket team.
During his stay in Italy, he remained working for the sporting goods retailer Decathlon while he also volunteered as a driver of a bus for disabled people in his spare time.
It is also worth mentioning here that Farook’s family plans to challenge his extradition at the European Court of Human Rights.
