LAHORE (Web desk) – Police have arrested 35 suspects on Monday for disrupting a vigil held in memory of former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer in Lahore.
The attack took place on Sunday evening when members of civil society gathered at Liberty Chowk to light candles to mark 4th death anniversary of Salman Taseer.
A group of nine to ten men showed up at the scene, snatched and tore up placards and photos of Salman Taseer before beating up the participants of the vigil. The attackers indiscriminately kicked women and other participants. They also subjected the reporters covering the event to torture and hit threw their cameras on the road and also damaged their DSNG vans.
Mumtaz Qadri, who was Taseer`s bodyguard, shot him dead on January 4, 2011 at Kohsar Market in Islamabad over his call for Pakistan s blasphemy laws to be reformed.
