Margot Robbie says she has started receiving death threats after starring in Suicide Squad as DCEU fan favourite, Harley Quinn.
Written and directed by David Ayer, the movie stars an array of big names such as Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress and Robbie playing Quinn in the characters live action silver screen debut which has catapulted the Aussie star into global stardom; something she wasn’t prepared for.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie revealed how bad things got after the role and how she dealt with the stalkers and death threats:
“You’re about to be in a comic book film; now here’s the worst-case scenario of how big and scary it can get. There’s just all this stuff you learn along the way, like, when you get those death threats, it’s [smart] to have a security team do a background check on whoever sent them to see if there is any past history of violence because you’ll need to know whether you need security to go to certain events.”
Robbie also said she wished “someone had explained a lot of those things to me early on”.
Suicide Squad, one of the most anticipated comic book movie ventures prior to its release was also one of the worst reviewed DC movie. However, the anti-hero team-up feature did more than well at the box office, grossing at under $747 million worldwide.
Although Margot Robbie finds herself in a disturbing and life threatening situation, she has no qualms about being a part of the DCEU and has no less than 4 upcoming Harley Quinn projects in the works such as Gavin O’Connor’s Suicide Squad 2, set to enter production in 2018.
