PM Nawaz announces Rs300m for flood relief in Mianwali

MIANWALI (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday arrived in Mianwali and announced Rs300 million for flood relief in Isakhel district.

The premier was briefed by the authorities on damages caused by floods and relief activities in Isakhel, Radio Pakistan reported.

Seven people lost their lives in rain-related incident while 45 villages and 55,000 people were affected by recent floods in the area.

Addressing the flood victims of the area, the prime minister expressed grief over the loss of life and promised necessary action to prevent floods caused by hill torrents. He announced Rs200 million for a water scheme in Isakhel and 1.3 billion rupees for preventing flooding caused by hill torrents.

The premier shed light on the importance of building more dams in order to avoid devastation caused by floods. He reassured the people that the government is prioritising development of underdeveloped areas in order to bring them at par with developed areas.

PM Nawaz also mentioned the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, saying that it will pass through the area and create employment opportunities for the people and bring prosperity.

“China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project is a message of prosperity for residents of Mianwali,” he said.

“The government will leave no stone unturned for rehabilitation of the flood-affected families.”

The premier added that Pakistan’s economy is showing positive trends and in the next three years it will be further strengthened.

Mianwali DCO Talat Mehmood Gondal informed PM Nawaz that 45 villages and around 55,000 people were affected by heavy rain and hill torrents. He further said that crops on 12,924 acres of land were destroyed by the floods. Moreover, 11 relief camps were set up for flood affectees and 2,345 people were transferred to safer areas.

The DCO added that 2,214 tents and 9,800 food packets were also distributed amongst the flood victims.
