LAHORE (Staff Report) – As the whole world is marking Women’s International Day to put an emphasis on the need of gender equality and importance of female’s role in development in 21st century, the largest technology giant Google has also created a special doodle to play its role in promotion of the cause.
The special doodle shows women of different age groups with bubbles that describe several professions they probably want to opt out. In other words the doodle says that women are working in variety of fields these days and their role must be honored.
Additionally the Women’s Day doodle also includes a video that features United Nations’ women of the year, that played crucial role in different fields of life. The video also included Pakistan’s Malala Yousafzai and Muniba Mazari, who recently made it to UN’s 30 Under 30 list.
This year Pakistan is also observing International Women’s Day 2015 with ‘Pledge For Parity’ theme. The country is also set to launch its first ever National Women Empowerment Policy.
The first National Women’s Day was marked on 28 February 1909 in the United States after a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.
During an International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen the following year, Clara Zetkin, leader of the ‘Women’s Office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany, suggested the idea of an International Women’s Day.
She proposed that every year in every country there should be a celebration on the same day. The idea was met with unanimous approval.
