ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – A quadrilateral meeting on Afghan peace process will take place on Monday (today) in Islamabad to evolve mechanism for the talks between the Afghan government and Taliban.
Representatives of Pakistan, Afghanistan, the US and China will attend the session. Pakistan will be represented by Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry while Afghanistan will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Hikmet Karzai, sources in the Foreign Office told Daily Pakistan Global.
Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz will also address the opening session of meeting.
Special representatives of the US and China for Pakistan and Afghanistan will also participate in the meeting.
The quadrilateral session will work out schedule and procedure for the talks between the Taliban and Afghan government.
The spokesman for US State Department John Kirby said that representatives of Taliban have not been invited to the meeting however the meeting which may following this sitting will also invite the insurgent groups.
The peace process will be directly led by Afghanistan leadership and Pakistan and others will provide any required assistance for holding the dialogues, he said.
