16-year-old girl raped, killed in Sargodha a day after Kasur incident

SARGODHA – Another girl has been subjected to rape and murder in a Punjab town only a day after the news of abduction, rape and murder of an eight-year-old Zainab in Kasur shook the nation.

Body of the victim, identified as 16-year-old Sajida, was recovered from a farming field in Bhalwal tehsil of the province’s Sargodha district on Thursday.

Sajida had gone in the fields for daily lavatory needs in the morning, as is the norm in the rural areas of the country, where unidentified men strangled her to death after subjecting her to rape, said the victim’s father, Mohammad Khan.

Police said that the truth would be uncovered after a postmortem examination, and the DPO directed police to shift the body to a hospital for the examination.

They said a first information report (FIR) of the incident has been lodged and the investigation was underway.

The incident has come to fore a day after two people were killed, allegedly by police firing, as enraged residents attempted to storm the deputy commissioner’s office after the news of Zainab’s brutal murder broke in Kasur.
