Pakistani activist Nighat Dad makes it to Young Global Leaders list 2018

LAHORE-Nighat Dad was named the only Pakistani to feature in 2018 list of Young Global Leaders (YGL) issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF) for her services as an advocate of digital rights.

Currently working as the founder of Digital Rights Foundation, Nighat Dad has worked as a lawyer and internet activist. She is a campaigner for online freedom and one of the architects behind Pakistan’s legal framework against acid attacks. Her non-profit organization is helping women in their fight against online harassment.

This year’s list has seven Indians as compared to only one individual from Pakistan. More than half of the 2018 list consists of women, and the majority of them are from emerging economies including Malaysia, Argentina, and India.

Nighat is very honoured to be selected for the Global Leaders 2018 list, Talking to the media  Dad expressed her happiness and excitement to represent Pakistan. “It was a rigorous process with several interviews and harsh selection criteria but I managed to make it,” she said.

Dad will be working with the best group to create a representative body for a term of five years to address global challenges such as the environment, education, and poverty. Many Congratulations to Nighat Dad for the selection.
