Bollywood s Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan turns 75

Bollywood’s ‘Shahenshah’ Amitabh Bachchan turns 75 today and fans are celebrating the birth of a legend with festivities.

In a series of tweets, Big B expressed appreciation, and gratitude to all his fans for all their love, support and wishes.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also wished Amitabh Bachchan on his birthday on Twitter. He said, “Happy birthday ! India is proud of his cinematic brilliance & support to many social causes. I pray for his long & healthy life.”

Referred to as the “Shahenshah of Bollywood”, “Star of the Millennium” or “Big B”, Amitabh Bachchan was born on 11 October 1942. He gained the interest of the public in the 1970s for movies like Zanjeer and Deewaar, and was dubbed India’s first “angry young man” for his on-screen roles in Bollywood. He has appeared in over 190 Indian films in almost five decades. From winningnumerous accolades in his career, including four National Film Awards as Best Actor and many awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies, he is one of the few stars to gain so much popularity and respect in their careers.

Mr. Bachchan is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. He has won fifteen Filmfare Awards, and has been nominated 41 nominations in total. He has also worked as a playback singer, is a film producer and a television presenter.

The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to the arts. The Government of France has also honoured him with its highest civilian honour – Knight of the Legion of Honour, in 2007 for his larger than life of a career in the world of cinema and film.

Bachchan made his Hollywood debut in 2013 with The Great Gatsby playing a non-Indian Jewish character – Meyer Wolfsheim.
