Indian air force wing commander accused of sexual assault by junior officer

SRINAGAR – Police in Indian occupied Kashmir started probe against Indian Air Force Wing Commander after allegations of sexual assault made by a junior female officer.

Reports in Indian media said the incident occurred during New Year’s party on night of December 31, 2023, at the Air Force Station in Srinagar. The FIR was filed at Budgam police station on September 8, citing Section 376 (2) of the IPC, which addresses rape committed by members of the armed forces.

A senior police official confirmed that the FIR was registered in response to the complaint. Indian air force spokesperson has yet to release a formal statement.

The female officer’s complaint details that the alleged assault occurred around 2 AM on January 1, 2024, when the Wing Commander reportedly invited her into a room under the pretense of delivering a New Year’s gift.

The complainant criticised senior officers at Air Force Station for their inadequate response to her complaint. The internal committee established to investigate the matter took until April 2, 2024, to convene and concluded its investigation on May 15, ultimately finding the evidence inconclusive due to the absence of eyewitnesses.
