CALIFORNIA – A decade after the first iPhone was launched, Apple on Tuesday introduced the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus along with the Watch Series 3 and a big upgrade to the Apple TV.
iPhone X comes with a near bezel-less edge-to-edge screen and skips the home button on the front. So, users will need to tap on the side button to wake up Siri. For biometric authentication, the smartphone relies on the facial recognition. The phone was launched at the tech giant’s much anticipated event at their headquarters in Cupertino, California, on Tuesday.
Apple claims the facial recognition on the iPhone X can identify the face in dark or even when owner has different hairstyle or look as well. The technology is based on built-in neural engine on Apple’s A11 Bionic chipset. Apple says that the facial recognition cannot be spoofed by using a photograph or even a mask. The facial recognition technology can also be used for payment authentication. Users can also access home screen by just swiping up on the screen.
