Every Karachites favourite time of the year is back, the most awaited food festival, Karachi Eat 2018 is here. Now in its 5th year, the massive event kicked off on 12th January and ends on Sunday, January 14th 2018 at the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Park. The food fest grows bigger and bigger each year with a whopping 125 stalls this time round.
Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made an appearance and said he was pleased at the event taking place at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park:
“That’s like the cherry on top of the cake for us. We are very happy that this is being held at the Shaheed BB Park.”
With stalls from big names like Shan Foods, Awesamosas , Chapli Kebab House, Pantry and Chai Wala to name a few, one would think the festivals management would fix the few underlying issues it has had throughout the past years.
Thoroughly disappointed foodies have been tweeting up a storm to vent out their frustrations and also in an attempt to get through to the Karachi Eat management so that the event will be better handled in the future.
Most people seemed to think there was a huge problem with the fact that there was little attempt at any organisation and the long and arduous queues (especially for men) seemed to be a big issue;
While many others thought there was a whole lot more going wrong, with high prices and parking issues, using Uber or Careem was recommended;
And the traffic problem wasn’t just limited to the event itself;
The fact that Karachi Eat had falsely advertised its food and “redeemable” ticket prices was a recurring theme in people’s reviews;
And reading reviews like these just put some people off from even going;
However, the event was not a complete let down with a lot of people excited for Rooh Afzah making its way to Karachi Eat, offering a fusion of East with West;
And Shan bringing its A-game with mouth-watering food;
All in all people protested at the lack of an active management and its inability to cater to such a huge crowd, one can only hope the management learns from its mistakes and the rest of Karachi Eat 2018 is as amazing as advertised.
