Former cricketer Basit Ali has strongly criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for appointing Shoaib Malik as mentor of the Stallions team for the Champions One-Day Cup.
Basit Ali, who has held several key positions as a former batsman and coach, accused Shoaib Malik of match-fixing during a discussion on his YouTube channel, claiming that he has evidence to support his allegations if needed.
Basit Ali stated that those who don’t prioritise the country should not be appointed, questioning how PCB could make someone a mentor who has admitted to deliberately losing a match.
He further pointed out that in an interview with Ramiz Raja, Shoaib Malik himself confessed to deliberately losing a match.
Basit Ali also criticised Shoaib Malik for appointing Haris as the captain of the Stallions instead of Babar Azam.
Calling Babar Azam a “coward,” Basit suggested that in such circumstances, Babar should have taken a stance similar to Umar Akmal or Ahmed Shehzad and refused to play under Haris’s captaincy.
It’s noteworthy that Shoaib Malik had explained his decision to choose Haris as captain, stating that he intended to appoint someone with skill who could lead Pakistan to long-term success.
Despite Babar Azam and Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood being part of the Stallions team, mentor Shoaib Malik has supported Haris’s captaincy.
