ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced blocking of mobile phone SIMs registered in the names of deceased individuals from tomorrow, October 16.
The authority shared a statement on social media, stating its operation against illegal SIMs has now entered its third phase.
It said families of the deceased were given a deadline until October 15 to transfer the SIMs to their names. Even on the last day of the deadline, families can still transfer the SIMs.
The PTA spokesperson said the ownership of the SIM can be changed by providing the documents such the death certificate of the deceased, proof of relationship and original SIM.
In the second phase, the PTA had already blocked SIMs issued against expired identity cards prior to 2017. The PTA has also blocked approximately 70,000 SIMs issued against canceled and fake identity cards.
