ISLAMABAD – Jazz has officially launched 5G services in Pakistan after receiving the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) / 5G licence from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, in what the company described as a major milestone for the country’s digital development.
The licence agreement was signed by PTA Director General Licensing Brig. (Retd.) Aamir Shahzad and JazzWorld CEO Aamir Ibrahim at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, PTA Chairman Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Hafeez Ur Rehman, and senior officials from the public and private sectors.
In the first phase of deployment, Jazz said its 5G service is already live at around 180 sites across Islamabad, all four provincial capitals, and major urban centres including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Faisalabad.
The company said its expanded spectrum holdings will support faster speeds, lower latency and more reliable connectivity. It added that it is continuing to expand and upgrade its 4G network alongside the 5G rollout to widen access across the country.
“Today marks the beginning of Pakistan’s 5G era, unlocking a new wave of innovation, opportunity and growth,” JazzWorld CEO Aamir Ibrahim said. “As we lead this transition, our focus remains clear: delivering faster, more reliable connectivity while ensuring that no Pakistani is left behind.”
Jazz said it was the only operator in the recent spectrum auction to secure spectrum in all major bands, including 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz, which it said would allow it to deliver both wider coverage and higher-capacity performance.
The launch follows Jazz’s recently announced $1 billion commitment to Pakistan’s digital future, adding to what it says is more than $11 billion invested in the country over the past three decades.
