TOKYO – At least 42 people were left injured with one in a precarious condition in an explosion at a bar in Sapporo in northern Japan, on Sunday.
The reason behind the blast is still unknown but the explosion caused a number of buildings to collapse; some say it was a gas blast.
Eyewitnesses reported smelling gas in the area after the explosion, which happened at 8.30 p.m. (1130 GMT).

According to Japan Times, the two-storey restaurant is in the Hiragishi district of Sapporo, which is the largest city on the northern island of Hokkaido.
Videos posted on social media platform show flames and dark smoke billowing out of the place into the night sky. Police and rescue workers are trying to control the situation.
Warnings have been issued to the neighbouring areas with fear of another explosion.
