SMS, internet wipe off Eid-Cards tradition

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Common usage of mobile phone SMS and internet sources have promoted E-Cards culture and slowed down the industry of traditional Eid cards.

Due to changing the trend of Eid cards, hundreds of shopkeepers have changed their profession, as all these electronic means of communication are cheaper and time saving, therefore, the general public is not interested in visiting markets to purchase Eid cards.

Most of the shopkeeper in Anarkali, Urdu Bazar and Shah Alam Market claimed that there was only a few foreign customers who took interest in this tradition.

However, with the development of science and technology, as it was observed during a survey conducted by APP on Thursday, the use of E-Cards among the youth has almost eliminated the popularity of these greeting cards. But the mobile phones and SMS can never carry the same sentiments and feelings as greeting cards.

Talking to this scribe, some shopkeepers of Anarkali informed that the Eid cards industry was confronting a huge downfall.

They said the SMS packages were the main cause of nominal sale of Eid cards.
