ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Tuesday, reinstated the Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Saeed Ahmad Khan when it dismissed the federal government’s decision to send him on forced leave.
Legal counsel for Saeed Ahmed Khan, Asma Jehangir argued before the court that his client had no connection whatsoever with the shortage of petroleum products in the country as it was not his duty to purchase and distribute petroleum products. Government’s decision to send his client on forced leave is not appropriate and if his client may prove guilty in the inquiry proceeding, his services may be dismissed, Asma Jehangir said.
Additional Attorney General Afnan Karim Kundi while representing federal government said that Saeed Khan has not been suspended but he has only been sent on forced leave so that he could not affect the inquiry going on in this matter.
Earlier, the court had reserved the decision of the case on March 11.
Khan, on 17 February, approached the court after federal government sent him on forced leave of three months citing his negligence during the days long shortage of petrol in January 2015. The chairman OGRA has a job security of four years unless he is found mentally ill, he prayed.
