LAHORE (Staff Report) – Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the victor of NA-122 by-polls, has formally asked PTI Chairman Imran Khan for permission to make the victory speech following the formal notification of the results by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The unseated speaker National Assembly sent a formal request to the PTI chairman on Saturday, asking his permission to make the victory speech.
“In the 2013 polls, he (Imran Khan) had based the allegation of rigging on the fact that my party leader had made a victory speech before it was formally announced,” said Sadiq, speaking to reporters at his residence.
“But after it was clear by all exit polls, local and international, that the PML-N had won the elections,” he said.
“It therefore became clear that there are some other rules and etiquette of making victory speeches that we at the League don’t know of. It takes courage to admit one’s shortcomings and I do mine.”
Sources at the PTI central secretariat confirmed receipt of the request and said that even if a victory speech were to be made now, the election etiquette would still be violated. “The only proper, acceptable course of action would have been not winning in the first place,” said the sources.
