Afghan Consul General Mohibullah Shakir has come under scrutiny for violating diplomatic protocol during a formal event in Peshawar by not standing for Pakistan’s national anthem.
The incident occurred at the Rahmatul-Lil-Alameen ﷺ Conference, where attendees stood in respect as the anthem played. Despite this, Consul General Shakir and his delegation remained seated, raising concerns among the audience.
According to official sources, the Afghan diplomat’s failure to stand for the anthem is being viewed as a breach of diplomatic etiquette. “Diplomatic norms require foreign envoys to observe the host country’s customs and laws, including showing respect during national symbols,” one official noted.
The Afghan Consul General’s actions have sparked debate among officials, with many emphasizing the critical role of diplomatic decorum in fostering mutual respect between nations. The incident is seen as a serious misstep, with expectations for further discussions on the matter between the two countries.
