Hertiage Now will exhibit Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy s HOME1947

‘Heritage Now’ will kick off today (Saturday) to celebrate the cultural heritage of Pakistan at the Alhamra Arts Centre.

The festival ‘Heritage Now’ reflects  upon the cultural heritage, and is bringing together professionals from across Pakistan and the world to discuss the issues facing the museums and heritage sector through conversation, performance and art. The festival will be inclusive of panel discussions, academic paper presentations, exhibitions, crafts and performances, and art-based activities.

The festival’s special features include Song of Lahore, a documentary by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Sachal Studio Orchestra. To add to the charm, there will be a performance by a French quintet band ‘Le Concert Impromptu’ as well.

HOME1947 – Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s exhibition will be displayed for the first time in Pakistan. The unique and deeply beautiful exhibition has collected narratives from people who left their homes and crossed borders during the 1947 partition of the Indian subcontinent. HOME1947 will display the stories of these refugees through photography, sound design short documentaries and installations.

“I grew up listening to my grandparents’ stories about childhood homes they left behind, the smell of the earth when it rained, the fragrance of Jasmine in the spring, the friendships the longed to rekindle, the mango trees under which they played – Home 1947 is my ode to that generation.” said Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Sharmeen ObaidChinoy recently won an Emmy Award for A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness. The documentary highlighted the subject of honour killings in Pakistan.
