SRINAGAR – Four people were martyred and dozens others, including a woman, were injured in the brutal actions of Indian troops in Islamabad district, on Friday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the troops opened fire on a residential house during a cordon and search operation in Srigufwara area of the district, critically injuring the owner of the house, Muhammad Yousuf Rathar, and his wife, Hafeeza Begum.
The injured were shifted to sub-district hospital Bijbehara for treatment, however, Rathar was declared dead on arrival while Hafeeza was shifted to Soura Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar for specialized treatment.
The troops also killed three youth and destroyed a residential house during the operation. Earlier, an Indian policeman was killed and two troops were injured in an attack in the same area.
Massive protests erupted in the area against the cordon and search operation and subsequent killings. Indian police and troops fired pellets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering intense clashes between the demonstrators and the forces’ personnel
Dozens of people have sustained injuries during the clashes, which were going on when reports last came in.

Sources at Sub-District Hospital Bijbehara and Primary Health Centre Srigufwara confirmed that a dozen injured civilians were brought for treatment at the twin facilities.
The occupation authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the district to prevent people from sharing information about the situation in Srigufwara.
Statistically, as many as thirty-three Kashmiris, including two young boys, were martyred in occupied Kashmir by the Indian forces in April.
According to the data compiled by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, the martyred locals included one who was gunned down in a fake encounter while four women were widowed and six children were also orphaned.
Besides the casualties, 762 civilians were injured when Indian troops and police personnel resorted to brute force, bullets, pellets, and teargas shelling on protesters.
Indian troops, in their continued acts of state terrorism, martyred 31 Kashmiris including a woman and six young boys during May 2018.
During the period, 314 people were injured due to the use of brute force including firing of bullets, pellets and teargas shells by the Indian army, paramilitary and police personnel on peaceful protesters.
