LAHORE – Muslims around the globe are observing the Holy Month of Ramazan with reverence, however, many of them tend to be confused whether it is allowed to brush teeth while fasting.
Brushing your teeth while having fast is totally Halal, however, it is preferable to avoid using toothpaste or mouthwash as they may reach the throat.
According to Shaykh Ibn al-Uthaymin and Shaykh Ibn Baz, the fast will not break by using mouthwash and toothpaste.
The American Dental Association recommended everyone to brush teeth twice a day which helps to remove food and plaque from teeth and dental cavities.
Plaque is the sticky white film contains bacteria which produce acid that attacks tooth enamel and repeated attacks can break down tooth enamel and lead to cavities.
The frequent consumption of sugar can affect teeth and doctors recommends limiting the sugar/carbohydrates consumption in Ramazan.
