Journalism, once considered a noble profession, has been subjected to criticism because of the race for TRP’s.
Television Rating Points or commonly known as TRP’s determine what TV channel was seen most during which slot. The ratings are recorded by media rating agencies. In Pakistan, however, only one such agency is working, named Kantar Media. These ratings are crucial for the survival and profitability of channels as they provide the basis for advertising tariffs.
A trend is seen in Pakistan that every channels claims to be either ‘No. 1 channel’ or ‘biggest News channel’. We at Daily Pakistan are determined to bring you the average ratings of different news channels each week.
This week Geo News topped the chart in average rating from 18th September to 20th September during the prime time slot.
Each news channel airs one hour bulletin from 18:00-19:00. Following chart shows who won the race of the most viewed NEWS bulletin during this time slot.
From 19:00-20:00, the news channels compete for the TRP’s based on their respective programs. The average TRP’s show that ARY topped with 0.807.
Between the programming slot of 20:00-21:00 Geo attained top ratings with Ary and Samaa on 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

The above mentioned graphs tells us who actually won the race of TRP’s during the first three days of the week. Geo secured top place on the TRP chart with Ary attaining 2nd place – Dunya and Dawn News, however, stayed at the bottom of the list.
