LAHORE – As many as 11 units of Pakistan’s largest power plant, Guddu Thermal Power House, tripped late Thursday night due to dense fog causing power outages in the several areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
According to details, five of the 16 units of the power plant were already non-operational while the remaining 11 units tripped leading to an immediate shortfall of 747MW of electricity.
A spokesperson of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company said that the units which tripped due to intense fog, will be restored after it clears, adding that that work was underway to restore electricity supply.
K-Electric tweeted that “Due to tripping in National Grid, the power supply is affected to most parts of Sindh including Karachi. K-Electric’s restoration efforts are underway. We regret the inconvenience caused to customers and request their cooperation during this time”.

Most parts of the Sindh and Balochistan were affected due to the power supply failure. Large parts of Karachi including Liaquatabad, Sea One Area, Mehmoodabad, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Soldier Bazaar, Old City, Saddar and Defense View faced power blackouts.
It is one of the oldest power plants in the country and has three large transmission lines that feed its output to Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
