WATCH: Lamborghini Huracan sets world record for top speed in a half-mile

ALBEMARLE, North Carolina – A Lamborghini Huracan reached 250.27mph – the highest speed a street-legal car has ever achieved over a half-mile – to set a new world record on Thursday.

Footage shows the bright yellow Lamborghini Huracan waiting at the starting line on a cloudy day at Stanly County Airport in North Carolina, US.

The Italian car then starts to accelerate at an incredible rate.

Within seconds, the Huracan reaches a blistering speed of more than 250mph and becomes a blur as it bombs down the track to complete its run.

As the Lamborghini crosses the finish line, a watching crowd erupts into cheering and screaming.

Israeli driver Gidi Chamdi was behind the wheel of the supercar and broke his own half-mile record set at 240mph in a Lamborghini Gallardo last year.

The record-breaking Lamborghini Huracan was tuned by Underground Racing and boasts a 5.2 litre V-10 “packing something close to 3,000 horsepower”.
