SC orders re-election in PS-23 Naushahro Feroze

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan Tuesday ordered re-election in Sindh Assembly’s constituency PS-23 Naushahro Feroze, accepting a plea of PPP contestant Feroz Jamali which challenged the verdict of an election tribunal.

Previously the election tribunal had rejected his petition declaring the election of PML-N’s Masroor Khan Jatoi as legal. However he moved SC against the decision.

During hearing at the apex court, the petitioner argued that over 22,00 votes were unverified according to NADRA report which raises serious questions over the election of PML-N contestant, who the poll with a margin of 800 votes.

At which the court ruled that suspicious or unverifiable votes could not be declared fake votes.

However announcing the verdict, which was reserved on January 11, the Supreme Court ordered Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold re-election in the constituency.

In 2013 general election PML-N’s Masroor Khan Jatoi bagged 30,594 votes while PPP’s Feroz Jamali got 29,027 votes.
